I moved to Michigan from India 25 years ago in search of the American Dream. My husband and I chose Canton to make our home and raise our daughter because of its welcoming neighbours, quality schools, and vibrant community life. For the last four years as your Township Trustee, I have been working on making Canton a thriving and welcoming place to live.
While in India, I earned an engineering degree from the National Institute of Technology. After moving to Michigan, and while working full time and raising a toddler, I earned a MBA from the University of Michigan’s Ross School of Business. I currently work for the British Government’s Department of Transport helping automotive manufacturers certify their cars so they can sell them in Europe. My husband also works as a consultant in the automotive industry after retiring from Ford. We are proud to be part of the industry that drives the Motor City and has helped so many families realize the American Dream.
I am proud of my long and varied record of community involvement. I am grateful to be part of Canton’s Interfaith Group which seeks to keep Canton a diverse and inclusive place to live. As president of Swajan, an Indian American nonprofit serving the greater Detroit area with a focus on culture and traditions, I helped to raise $45,000 for the organization. I have also been a proud member of the Summit on the Park community center family for a number of years and would like to improve and expand its role in serving the recreation and health needs of Canton Township. I am also a member of the Partnership of the Arts and enjoy taking part in the pottery classes at Cherry Hill Potters Guild.
My community involvement also extends to promotion of arts and culture in the community. I am a Board representative on the Commission for Culture, Arts and Heritage. I love volunteering for different community events at the Village Arts Factory or at the Heritage Park. This year, I am pioneering an effort to document the last 50 years of diverse history in Canton and archiving it with the Historical Society.
While this is my first re-election for township Trustee, I am no stranger to the political process. I am part of the Canton Democratic Club and have experience as an organizer for the last four presidential elections where I helped phone bank and knock doors. In 2020, I organized a postcard campaign of 35000 postcards for the special Senate election in Georgia. In 2022, I volunteered as an organizer for Proposal 3 for Reproductive Freedom and collected signatures for the ballot measure. Since 2023 I am on the Canton Township Election Commission and make sure all the processes are followed correctly.
In my free time I love to cook and bake and spend time with my cat Pepe. I like to try new restaurants especially locally owned ones that have become the Canton diaspora. I am part of a women’s group called Canton Women’s Group (CWG) and like to host book clubs and be part of different events with this wonderful group of women.
I love living in Canton Township. In my 20 years here, I have always found the township thriving, growing, welcoming, and diverse. I would like to continue to serve as a Township Trustee to help steer us into the future so that Canton Township remains a great place to live, work, and play. Please be a Tania Ganguly for Trustee voter in the by absentee ballot, early voting or on November 5th 2024.
